PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVES
The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:
• Explore the decentralized nature of U.S. government and politics and its impact on women
running for election at the local, state and federal levels;
• Examine recruitment and training programs for women running for office;
• Engage with successful women in politics to discuss ways to mobilize support for women
political entrants, aspirants and established leaders;
• Explore strategies to build sustainable coalitions in national and local government and establish a
successful gender-focused political agenda;
• Examine ways to address the unique barriers women face when entering politics.

Professional Background: Ms. Iashchuk is a member of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Council and
head of the Council's standing committee on education, science,culture,
youth policy, sports and tourism. She is a first-time council member
and the only woman chairing a standing committee. To address
challenges for women in politics, she initiated within the Council an
inter-faction group called"For Equal Opportunities." Ms. Iashchuk is
also a professor and dean of the faculty of primary education and
philology at the Khmelnytskyi Academy of Humanities and Pedagogy.

Professional Background: Ms. Lukiantseva is the head of an NGO called Civic Initiatives,which
works to increase the visibility of women leaders through public events
and discussions, and provides trainings on topics such as women's
participation in local politics,gender in politics and media, and local
gender policy development. Civic Initiatives also facilitates
collaboration between women in government and the local community,
with an emphasis on the need for issue-based coalition building and
regional cross-faction caucuses and civic groups to more effectively
address gender budgeting and related policy issues.

Professional Background: Ms. Slavova is a People's Deputy on the Melitopol City Council and a
member of the Council's Budget Committee. Ms. Slavova is also a
coordinator for the Women's Democracy Network's(WDN)chapter in
Ukraine's Southern region. She was responsible for organizing and
managing the WDN Ukraine conference for the Dnipropetrovsk region,
which involved over 60 women leaders from city councils,NGOs, and
civil society. Ms. Slavova is particularly interested in establishing
cooperation between local city councils.

Professional Background: Ms. Voitsekhovska was first elected to the Ukrainian Parliament(Rada)
in 2014. Both prior to and since her election, she has continuously
supported women's political leadership and gender-focused public policy
formation. Cross-party work with women leaders in Parliament and
collaboration with civil society leaders has been instrumental to her work
in these areas. In 2015,Ms. Voitsekhovska became one of the Rada
Equal Opportunities Caucus co-chairs and champions of gender
mainstreaming in Ukraine's education and employment systems.
