Topic: - Reimbursement for replacing the City's cracked
sidewalk and crumbling curb.
1. I inquired about having the City repair/replace their defective
concrete in the city right of way in front of our home.
2. I was directed to the head of Public Works; Scott Williams. He
came by to inspect my concern and AGREED that the curb
needed to be replaced, and yes, it would be advantageous to tie
it in with the two new houses adjoining the east of our property.
3. Mr. Williams said that he had already committed his 2019
budget and did not have the money to do the repair. He said
that I could repair it at my own cost and submit my receipt to
the City Manager and request reimbursement, if any monies
were available.
4. Mr. Williams told me that there were NO plans for spending
money on the sidewalks in the 300 block of Plaza for at least
FIVE years. He did not intentionally mislead me.
5. With the information that we would have to live with crumbling
concrete for five years, in July 2019, I paid for a permit and
paid to have the work done, at the same time that the two new
constructions next to us were replacing the concrete they had
demoed.
6. Behold ! Three weeks ago (NOT 'five years' later) the entire
300 block of Plaza was receiving parcels of sidewalk and curb
demolition and replacement.
7. Since the former and exiting City Manager appropriated the
money to do 49 repairs in our 300 block, I think that the City of
Atlantic Beach should pay for my much needed repair of a city
sidewalk, on City right of way.
