Statement Demonstrating the Need for Requested Waiver
Dear City of Atlantic Beach:
As requested, please see the below explanation and statement concerning the need for
the sign waiver.
Ash Properties proposes to remove 8 -ft from the top of the existing pylon sign and
replace it with a 74t sign. The final height of the pylon sign will be 24 -ft, which reduces
the existing sign height by 1 -ft.
Ash Properties feels the 24 -ft high sign is necessary to overcome visibility issues caused
by the Atlantic Boulevard overpass at Mayport Road which obscures the sign. Also, the
property sits at the base of the overpass, making the line of sight considerably higher
than the street level for vehicles traveling east on the overpass. A 24 -ft high sign would
bring the line of sight up to a more appropriate level.
