CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH
CULTURAL ART BOARD MEETING
V--20,1999
jAt'lUAki
The regular meeting of the Cultural Arts Board was held on Wednesday, January 20, 1999 at the
City Hall Commission Chambers. Vice -Chairperson Nancy DeCandis called the meeting to order
at 8:11 P.M..
Present were: Nancy DeCandis, Nancy Bodge, Karin Clark, Woody Winfree, Mayor Suzanne
Shaughnessy, Staff Liaison Timmy Johnson & First Night Chairperson Cindy Grossberg.
Cindy reported on the finances of First Night:
Total income $34,120.50
Expenses $18,576.05 (not complete)
Balance $15,544.45 (not complete)
Cindy recommends requesting $10,000 from the City of Atlantic Beach for next year's event.
After a brief discussion it was the conscience of the Board to request $10,000 from the Cultural
Arts Board of Atlantic Beach.
The committee is looking into separating from the city
Cindy informed the Board that she has completed the paper work for the corporation. Nancy
requested that the Board come to the February meeting with suggestions for the committee &
how it would operate. The committee will meet between the February & March meeting. Timmy
recommends forming a committee with people who are aware of the First Night Event.
Nancy Bodge will research grants and how the committee would benefit from going nonprofit, as
for as grants are concern.
Nancy DeCandis recommends holding the First Night meeting before the Cultural Arts Board
meeting.
Nancy Bodge gave an update on the Atlantic Beach Elementary School's Art needs; After
speaking with Karen Sader their needs are for five artists to conduct workshops a few days in a
row from 8:45 - 10:30. This will be for one grade or many (in class visits). If the Board could
come up with one artist each, it would really be helpful. Karin suggests music at lunch.
Karin reported that she would check with Timmy on the availability of some dates for the Spring
concert in the Park. May 5th and 18th are out because of other activities. The Board
recommends getting a different Band from the one used in the Fall.
Rosemary announced that she will be preforming April 23rd & 24th at FCCJ.
