11-19-97"FIRST NIGHT" STEERING COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF MEETING OF NOVEMBER 19, 1997
The "First Night" Steering Committee held its regular meeting
on Wednesday, November 19, in the Commission Chambers. Pre-
sent were: Co -Chairpersons Nancy DeCandis and Rosemary Flet-
cher, Clyde and Cindy Sullivan, Pam Bushnell, Susanne Judas,
Thelma Fugere, Mary Jenkins, Dezmond Waters, Cindy Grossman,
Alice Van Nostrand, Donna Zimmerman, Karen Summers, Elaine
Kenney, Conrad Chun, Woody Winfree, Tim Kubiak, Mayor Suzanne
Shaugnessy, and Carl Walker, Board Coordinator.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by Nancy DeCandis
and self -introductions were made by those present. Cindy
Grossberg moved to approve the minutes of the last meeting,
as written; Cindy Sullivan seconded and the motion carried.
Woody reported for programming, advising that all contracts
have been received from the entertainers except for a few
with firm verbal commitments with contracts to follow. Dis-
cussion on the need for accommodations for the out of town
entertainers resulted in several suggestions being made and
which will be followed up.
Mary Jenkins reported for Children's activities, advising
that the overall cost should be at - or under - the budget
figure of $1,000. Discussion on set-up and space for the
acitivities took place as well as lother logistical matters.
Thelma went over operations/logistics, detailing specific
needs. She also brought up the matter of renting another
tent at a cost of approximately $550.00 to be used for the
audience attending the "Glass Camels" performance. After
discussion, the committee unanimously voted not to incur this
expense.
Thelma said that the vendor contracts were a priority matter
and she understood the use of the contracts would be a de-
cision made by the City Commission. She also outlined the
use of the rental trucks and their cost and intended usage.
Elaine Kenney reported that over 200 posters had been dis-
tributed by volunteers this past Saturday. She thanked Tim
Kubiak for his help. The posters have been placed in almost
all parts of not only Atlantic Beach, but Neptune and Jack-
sonville Beach, as well. Rosemary, on behalf of the Commit-
tee thanked Elaine for her hard work and that of her volun-
teers.

Pam Bushnell, for P & R, reported that she expected to stay
within the original budgeted figure. She asked for lists
from all sub -committees of those people who needed to be
thanked or acknowledged for their efforts.
Other aspects regarding button and t -shirt sales were men-
tioned by Pam, along with other sources of publicity she is
working on.
Suzanne Judas, Finance Chair, distributed a copy of the cur-
rent budget, going over some of the figures and mentioning
that costs that were made known tonight would now be added to
the budget expenses.
Donna Zimmerman, reporting for volunteers, asked that every-
one help in the recruitment of people since "now" is the
critical time to line up volunteer workers.
Carl, prior to adjournment of the meeting, brought the com-
mittee up to date on the status of the sculpture, asking that
the group decide what location they felt would be the best
proposed site for it. Woody Winfree elaborated, and follow-
ing discussion, the unanimous choice, by vote, was Howell
Park.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Nancy
DeCandis at 9:10 PM.
