MINUTES OF MEETING OF AUGUST 20, 1997
The "First Night" Steering Committee held its regular meeting
on Wednesday, August 20, in the Commission Chambers. Present
were: Co -Chairperson Rosemary Fletcher, Cindy Grossberg, Pam
Bushnell, Donna Zimmerman, Dezmond Waters, Woody Winfree,
Karen Summers, and Carl Walker, Board Coordinator.
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM and introductions
were made by those present. Cindy Grossberg moved to approve
the minutes of the last meeting, as read. The motion was se-
conded by Karen Summers, and unanimously passed.
Pam Bushnell presented and explained the "Vision Statement"
which she had prepared (see attached). She stressed why she
felt this statement was needed in addition to the "First
Night" mission statement. Discussion and comments from the
group followed. The statement was adopted by the committee,
by consensus, and Rosemary thanked Pam for her efforts.
Donna Zimmerman, reporting for the volunteer committee, ex-
plained why it was necessary to know the needs of the various
sub -committees for volunteer help. A "brainstorming" session
followed on the subjects of recruiting and attracting volun-
teers as well as retaining them.
Rosemary advised that Lisa Goodrich could no longer handle
both programming and fund raising responsibilities due to
family commitments. Woody Winfree reported for programming,
and advised that the "Woody Brothers" group was no longer
to appear. Substitutes are being considered. She also de-
scribed other groups which have signed contracts. Sandy,
representing children's programming gave the status of acti-
vities planned for various age groups.
Pam informed the committee that "Shore Lines" has agreed to
be a sponsor and will be publishing a 26 page insert on the
event. The only requirements are that a letter be prepared
with the Mayor's signature which can be used for them to so-
licit advertising for the special publication. The letter
has been written, signed, and given to them. They also re-
quire a $500 advertisement which would normally be at a cost
of $5000. Pam also reported that State Farm Insurance has
agreed to donate the printing cost of the posters as well as
the brochures.
r
Cindy reported that 3 vans have been donated to be used as
shuttles. The Donors are: Fleet Landing, Community Presby-
terian Church, and East Coast Transportation. Magnetic iden-
tification strips will be placed on the vehicles.
Ree Theofan reported that ImagePro Ad Specialties has sub-
mitted a bid of $1200 for the "First Night" buttons; it is
for 5,000 of them at a unit cost of $0.24 each and they will
be 2" square. Carl will process the purchase order requisi-

There was no other business and Rosemary Fletcher adjourned
the meeting at 9:02 PM.
