1896 Beach Avenue (Sandra Taylor) 02.23.2005 February 23, 2005 Sandra Taylor 1896 Beach Avenue Atlantic Beach, Florida 32233 Re: Right-of-way construction permit Dear Ms. Taylor: Chief Thompson and Public Works Director Rick Carper have reviewed your application to construct a barrier wall along the front of your lot. As I believe they have discussed with you, the City has a regulation that requires a two-foot wide Safety Zone along sidewalks and streets. The reason for this requirement is to ensure that there is a safe area along the side of streets and sidewalks, and to keep this area free of obstacles that might be hazardous to people walking, running or bicycling. As such, this type of wall is no longer permitted. Chief Thompson has indicated that the pavers you wish to use as an alternative (rather than the barrier wall) would be acceptable provided that these are installed completely flush with the existing grade of your driveway and Beach Avenue. Mr. Carper will also need an Impervious Surface Area calculation before Public Works can approve your application. You might ask that your contractor assist you with this calculation, as they are generally familiar with this requirement. Once we have this information, this type of permit can be quickly issued. I am returning the information you submitted, along with a new application form. Please feel free to call me at 247-5826 with any questions. Sincerely, Sonya B.
