Re: Changes to parking regulations
Dear Michael:
I have read and considered your July 11th letter concerning recent changes to the City of Atlantic
Beach parking regulations. As you know, the City has consistently enforced the requirements for
new development and major redevelopment to provide parking that is required by the City ordinance
so that parking problems, particularly near busy commercial areas, are not exacerbated in a way that
will eventually create serious safety problems as the area continues to grow and redevelop. While
parking on the street may be appropriate for the immediate Town Center area, parking that requires
backing into the street should not be allowed to continue where new or reconstructed projects can
provide a safer alternative. Traffic continues to increase in the neighborhoods around Town Center,
and parking that backs into these narrow residential streets will increasingly become a safety issue if
this allowed to become the standard. Thank you for your comments and continued interest in the
community.
Sincerely,
Don Wolfson, Mayor
