Re: Signs at BP station located at 1211 Mayport Road within the City of Atlantic Beach
Dear Mr. Ali:
On October 13, 2003, the City Commission for the City of Atlantic Beach denied a request for a
waiver from the City’s sign regulations to allow for the complete face replacement on the Amoco
sign, and also the addition of a new BP logo cabinet sign at the top of the sign structure. (The
existing freestanding Amoco signs are Nonconforming Signs.) Subsequent to that action by the
City Commission, a BP banner was affixed to the top cabinet sign portion of the freestanding
sign that is located at the corner at Mayport Road and Plaza.
The City’s sign regulations do not permit this type of Banner Sign. This banner has also become
worn and unsightly and is the subject of frequent complaints by residents and elected officials.
The City requests that this banner be removed so that Code Enforcement action can be avoided.
