Re: Addition to garage
Dear Mr. Dagley:
I have reviewed all options that might be available to you to permit construction of a larger
garage on your property for storage of your cars.
If your property was in the area zoned SP (Special Purpose) District, which is the zoning district
created specifically for the salvage yard, you would be permitted to construct a storage garage
for vehicles and the size limit would not apply. The lots where your house is located, however,
are zoned RS-2 (Residential, Single-family) and the maximum size of a private garage in any
residential zoning district is 600 square feet. This is not a provision that either the Zoning
Department or the Building Department has any administrative ability to vary from. Approval of
a Variance by the Community Development Board is the only way a larger garage could be
permitted in the RS-2 Zoning District. You may call me at 247-5826 with any further questions.
Sincerely,
Sonya Doerr, AICP
