Re: Community Development Board meetings
Dear Mr. Yarbrough:
I write in reply to your e-mail of October 13th. I apologize for your confusion on the date of the
October Community Development Board meeting. Occasionally, a conflict with other activities or
Board member’s schedules requires the monthly meeting to be changed to an alternative date. If
such a change is required, the change is made during the preceding meeting as was done in this case
at the September 16th meeting, and I understand that you were in attendance at that meeting when
the change was discussed. Applicants with items to be considered in October were notified the
following day by mail, and the required notices reflected the meeting date as October 14th. The
City did fail to make the change on the web-site calendar until the staff person who makes such
updates to the web-site returned from vacation. We will use this oversight as an opportunity to
create a back-up plan to avoid this from happening in the future.
In regard to your comments related to the fence you wish to construct, approval of a Variance by
the Community Development Board would be required in order to obtain a permit to place a fence
as you have requested. The City Code provides very specific provisions related to the location and
height of fences and also for the approval of variances, and the CD Board consistently follows the
Code when considering any application for a Variance. I am told that you have discussed your
proposed fence with various staff members, and I’m sure the y will be glad to assist you should you
wish to apply for a Variance. The next meeting of the Community Development Board will be on
Tuesday, November 18th, and the application deadline for that meeting will be on Monday,
November 3rd at 5:00pm. Please call the Planning and Zoning staff at 247-5826 with questions you
may have about this process.
Best regards,
Mayor John S. Meserve
