Cornell Lane r w closingJim / Sonya / Rick, Dale Wappes of Sunrise Community Church has us to work with the City to present the idea of closing the remaining 100' of the Cornell Lane r/w for the purpose of constructing a habitat house on the property. We, of course, are thrilled about this opportunity and are willing to do whatever we need to do to make this dream become a reality. Attached to this e-mail you will find a proposed site plan for the project. As we understand it the current issues are as follows: 1) When the City releases r/w land they cannot designate that the property be given to a specific entity. It must be given over to the neighboring property owners. Since the two neighboring owners are a Habitat homeowner and the Scheidel Court homeowners association, we feel strongly that Habitat will be able to get these people to agree to sign the land over to Habitat. 2) Once habitat has acquired the land, we will then need to get a waiver from the City commission for permission to construct a home on a substandard lot (4,879 sq ft versus 7,500 sq ft) I recognize these obstacles are challenging and it could be difficult to get the commission to approve this project. However, I think we can all agree that a habitat house in that location is better than leaving it vacant considering the transient problem in that location. Any assistance / guidance / help you all can give to make this dream a reality would be greatly appreciated. especially in the area of process and what steps need to be taken to make this happen Thanks so much for your time and support. We appreciate the City's willingness to partner with us in our mission to eliminate substandard housing from our community.
