Wells ADDRESS: 1757 Seminole Road DAYTIME PHONE• 904-953-0905 EVENING PHONE• 904-270-1193 E-MAIL ADDRESS: wells.veldaP,,mayo.edu FAX 904-953-1010 Please explain any employment experience, board/committee experience, and/or community volunteer experience relative to the board/committee applying for. This is my first experience applying for a community board position I am very excited about the prospect of serving on this board if the opportunity presents itself. I feel hke I will be able to make a positive contribution to this board in a very short period of time. I have been an operations manager at Mayo Clinic for 8 years. The departments I have responsibility for are Radiation Oncology and the Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic Administrators sit on many committees at Mayo Clinic. My assignments include the Radiatior. Safety Committee, Allied Health Subcommittee, and Education Committee As an admimstrator with responsibility for many employees and their interactions between employees and physicians I feel like I already have experience in code enforcement, although granted from a different perspective. In the past I have participated in activities sponsored by the Amencan Cancer Society such as Relay or Life Please provide a brief explanation of your interest or any special qualifications you have in this field and your reasons for wishing to be appointed to this board/committee. My only qualification for membership on this board in a strong interest in assisting with the enforcement of codes in Atlantic Beach I feel like we have many codes in place and need to educate the public about them and do a better job of enforcement Living between 17th and 18th street on Seminole Road I am constantly the aware of code enforcement issues involving rental properties. Instead of complaining to neighbors about problem I would very much like to be part of the solution to these issues. Recently residents in this block got together to meet each other and discuss concerns in the area. It became apparent to me that a meeting of this type was not going to change the issues being discussed unless we became active in the community. As a result of the Mayor s invitation to apply to the boards in the last issue of Tide Views I decided to apply for membership on the Code Enforcement Board. Atlantic Beach is a beautiful and wonderful place to live and I would hke to be able to contribute to maintaining our way of life by participating in its future. There were three slues to be addressed in the deferred resolution and at least oneofthese may moot because of the longer teal is of office fear the CA .A Committee members The first to stipulate that the filling of an unexpired term would not count a.s a full term If the deferred resolution had been adopted, the CARA Committee members could serve a total of between four and sax years which equals two full two-year terms plus some portion of an unexpired term in fact, they already have the ability to be serve fora total of four two-year terms which means somewhere between sac and eight years total if they were initially appointed n unexpired term. With this in Hund, is there any need to further amend the terms of e for the CARA Committee members? for the CARA Cormnittee members were to be further staggered so that two of embers would come up for reappointment' every six months rather than four ata trine at the each year The Board Member Review Committee's original concern was that, f so many Committee members tache up for reappointment at one time, they would be more o fill Given that they can now sene between six and eight years is the further staggering ofterms to six-month intervals necessary? With longer terms allowable, there is more likelihood that turnover would be less frequent` for those who are terns limited The las t issue to be. addressed in the deferred resolution was making the Pre dent of the Teen Council an automatic member. While this still should be addressed, you will recall that 3ezmond Waters made the sugestion in the June 27`}` City Commission meet ng that th s be amended to say `or their designee The next regularly scheduled Board Member Review Conet rnittee will be cin Thursday, July 21 at 5:00 pm. l ani scheduled to be out of town that week and will not be able to attend so it was important to outline these issues iii a memo form before the meeting, if you n additional information Tease let me know_ cc: Timmy Tohnsunr Director of l'arlrs and Recreation Rusty Pritchard, Chairman Cultural arts and Recreation Advisory Committee OLUTION OF THE 'CITY 'OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA ENDING THE TERMS OF OFFICE FOR MEMBERS OF TSF CULTURAL ARTS AI' D RECREATION ADVISORY Cc3MIITTEE AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE, EREAS, on July 8, 2002 the City ,Commission 'adopted Resolution 02-13 creating a s and Recreation Advisory Committee which included a provision limiting the maximum secuttve terms that any appointee may serve, and EREAS, the CityCommission has expressed a desire for appointments' to city Boards and eommittees to have uruform'terms and term lunits so that all members will be appointed for two-y=ear t there will be a maximum of four consecutive terms.
