THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH; WHICH PROVIDES FOR
FIRE LIMITS, AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE
CONSTRUCTION, ALTERATION, REMOVAL, DEMOLITION
EQUIPMENT, USE AND OCCUPANCY, LOCATION AND
MAINTENANCE OF BUILDING AND STRUCTURES
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH.
FLORIDA, that
SECTION I. Section 1, Adoption of Building Code, as specified
in Ordinance 25-59-1 be and is hereby amended in that with
reference to the Southern Standard Building Code the designation
"1957-1958 revision" be deleted, and the designation "1960-1961
revision" be inserted in lieu thereof, and Section 6, Amendments
made in said Code be and is hereby amended by addition of the
following:
The said Code is amended and changed in the following respects:
PROTECTIVE REQUIREMENTS, Section 404.2 Residential Occupancy,
Section 405 . 3 Business Occupancy and Section 406.3 Schools, an
APadditional protective item, No. 10 thereunder, is added as follows:
10. GLASS AND PLASTIC REQUIREMENTS
(z_) Windows in either wood or metal sash, having sill 30
or more inches above floor shall be glazed within the
following minimum requirements:
Area of 6 sq. ft. or less, Single strength, common
or sheet glass
Area not over 9 sq. ft. Double strength, common or
sheet glass
Area over 9 sq. ft. but less than 18 sq. ft. , 3/16 "
plate glass
Area over 18 sq. ft. but but over 27 sq. ft. , 1/4"
plate glass.
Area over 27 sq. ft. but not over 82 sq. ft. , 1/2
plate glass.
(b) Windows of which sill is at or near floor level, Glass
doors and adjacent glass panels, which with sliding
glass door constitute a glass door assembly, shall be of
one of the following types:
410 1. Approved laminated safety glass - as used in
Auto windshields.
2. Approved full tempered glass not less than 1/4"
in thickness,
And where glass 1/4" thick of this type is used a
horizontal metal mullion about waist height, must be
permanently attached thereto and made part thereof.

3 . Approved 1/4" thick, or heavier, wired glass in
which wire diameter is not less than 0.02 inch
and area enclosed by wire strands is not over 11
square inches.
(c) Shower Enclosures if of glass shall be of the quality
and characteristics specified in paragraph (b) above.
(d) Shower and shower bath doors, other than sliding doors
shall open outward.
(e) Plastic used in fabrication of shower and shower bath
4111 enclosures, or assemblies , shall be of one of the following
types:
1. Fiberglass reinforced panels of a weight not less
than 8 pounds per square foot.
2 . Acrylic Resin thermoplastic not less than 1/8 " in
thickness.
3. High impact Styrene not less than 1/8" in thickness.
4. Any plastic material not specifically mentioned
herein which may have been, or may be at a
future date, specifically approved for such use
by the Southern Building Code Congress; such
approval having been duly published in a regular
Compliance Report of Said Congress.
SECTION II . This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon
its passage.
