411110 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PART OF ARTICLE III, BUILDING
CODE, SECTION 6-8 ADOPTION, AND SECTION 705 -- FIRESTOPPING
OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE 1973 EDITION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA.
SECTION I. ADOPTION
1. There is hereby adopted, subject to the modifications,
changes and amedments set forth in this article, for
the purpose of establishing rules and regulations for
the construction, alteration, removal, demolition,
equipment, use and occupancy, location and maintenance
of buildings and structures, including permits and
penalties, that certain Building Code known as "The
Southern Standard Building Code," 1973 edition, filed
and adopted by the Southern Building Code Congress
and the whole thereof, except such portions as are
deleted, modified or amended by this article, of which
not less than three copies have been and are now filed
in the office of the City Clerk, and the same is
hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out
at length herein, and the provisions thereof shall be
controlling in the construction of all buildings and

SECTION II. SECTION 705 - FIRESTOPPING PARAGRAPH F OF THE SOUTHERN
STANDARD BUILDING CODE IS HEREBY AMENDED AS FOLLOWS;
(f) In combustible roof construction, where ceilings
or concealed spaces occur, such spaces shall be
divided into horizontal areas of not more than the
living or business unit therein with tight petitions
of noncombustible material or of approved wood
construction consisting of one-half inch exterior
plywood or of not less than two thicknesses of one
inch nominal lumber with joints broken. The concealed
space petition shall be perpendicular and in line
with the division petition of all units within the
building.
SECTION III. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its passage on final reading.
