Within or when adjacent to a residential zoning district, equipment such as heating and air conditioning units, pumps, compressors, or similar equipment that makes excessive noise, shall not be located closer than five (5) feet from any lot line. Per Florida Building Code – Residential (FBC-R), Chapter 24, Fuel Gas, governs the administration and enforcement of the installation of fuel gas systems (Natural gas). Per Florida Building Code-Residential (FBC-R), 2412.2, The storage system for liquefied petroleum Gas (LP gas) shall be designed and installed in accordance with NFPA 58. The installation of a generator on residential property requires two (2) building permits. One for the electrical connections to the generator and one for the fuel gas tank and supply system. In addition to the installation details, a current survey will be required for both permits to verify the locations of the generator and fuel tanks. Exception: A survey will not be required for the Fuel Gas Permit for a generator using natural gas. Where installed in a flood zone or an area subject to flooding, the generator and connections must be installed above the Design Flood Elevation (DFE) and the tanks must be above the DFE or anchored to resist flotation and movement. (DFE = FEMA BFE + 2.5 feet) Electrical. The generator and transfer switch must be installed per the NEC and JEA guidelines. LP gas tanks. The permit application must include the type (ASME or DOT), size, number, and location of tank(s), and if the tanks will be filled on site. Tanks must be installed per NFPA 58.
