Title: Alex Buchaca 2325 Beachcomber Trail Atlantic Beach, Fl. 32233 Date of Assessment: February 10, 2022 Name of Assessor: Manny Nassar ISA Certified Arborist & Tree Risk Assessment Qualified FL-6791A Methods: Conducted a level 2 tree risk assessment which includes level 1 visual inspection and level 2 sounding of trees to detect soft wood or decay. The purpose of this assessment is to determine which trees should be removed for health or safety reasons. All canopy, trunk and root structures were inspected for visible signs of distress. Long -term health of trees post construction is a major concern, recommendations are based on stress which will be placed on mature trees root systems. Trees 1 — 4 Description: Location: Waters Edge Species: Sabal Palmetto Trunk: DBH (5.8 inches) Site Observations: There are four sabals located at waters edge, with half or partial root ball in water. Lean of palms and grade is sloped towards canal. This area is in the far edge of back yard see (Figure 1). There do not appear to be any abiotic or biotic disorders as these palms are still young. Ground is soft in this area, most likely due to higher water table. Visible defects: None present, however biotic disorders may develop as palms mature and roots expand into canal area. Results: Lack of root space and high water table may cause decline. Location of palms makes it impossible to fertilize as needed or even complete pruning tasks due to proximity of canal. Recommendations: Remove the four Sabal palms “cabbage palms” located along the bank on waters edge. Figure 1. Cabbage Palm marked with white and blue spotted ribbon. 2 Tree 6 Description: Location: Backyard at patio edge Species: Magnolia grandiflora Trunk: DBH (12.1 inches) Site Observations: Grade defect likely causing an imbalance in proper drainage of water. The entire area where tree is located appears to be slow draining. Mid and lower canopy are heavily shaded. Visible Defects: There is a large wound in main trunk just below canopy where a large limb failed approximately twenty feet from ground level. Visible decay and rot in main trunk approximately seven feet from ground level. Results: Visible decay and heavy shade is affecting the vigor of this tree. There is a high probability of failure and it presents a danger to surrounding trees and neighboring home. Location of tree at the edge of where patio construction will take place will further compromise health. Recommendations: Removal is recommended. Tree 5 Description: Location: Backyard behind patio Species: Sabal Palmetto Trunk: DBH (10.2 inches) Site Observations: Ground is soft, likely from high water table, heavy shade from neighboring Magnolia Visible Defects: Trunk has caused a severe bend approximately twelve feet from canopy crown. Results: It appears as though canopy crown integrity has been compromised by this abnormal growth, which may eventually affect the apical meristem (main bud). Recommendations: Removal is recommended, even with the removal of surrounding Magnolia, bend in trunk near canopy crown will most likely cause failure in the future. 3 Tree 8 Description: Location: Side yard north facing Species: Quercus virginiana Trunk: DBH (19 inches) Site Observations: Heavy shade cover, forest debris over root ball, poor draining soil due to grade Visible Defects: Poor vigor throughout entire canopy and has a forty five degree lean towards neighboring home. Visible decay in canopy branch structure. Results: Lack of sufficient photosynthesis and root zone being compromised from leaf litter build up and poor draining soils has caused decline of this tree. Canopy shade has forced the loss of a major portion of its canopy. This tree presents a present danger to neighboring home and any future construction using heavy equipment to clear the site will most certainly place further stress on an already compromised root system. Tree 7 Description: Location: Backyard Northeast edge of new construction Species: Magnolia grandiflora Trunk: DBH (26.8 inches) Site Observations: Heavy leaf cover over mid and lower canopy. Leaf litter and forest debris, along with high water table causing oxygen depletion of roots. Visible Defects: Severe trunk rot and decay, Main trunk has a sixty degree lean with heavy load factor towards lean. Results: This tree is a huge safety concern, it may be one that is removed regardless, due to proximity of where home construction will take place. Recommendations: Removal is recommended. 4 Tree 11 Description: Location: Front area near north property line Species: Quercus virginiana Trunk: DBH (15 inches) Site Observations: Heavy shade cover, forest debris over root ball, heavy root competition with surrounding trees Visible Defects: Visible decay and rot at base of trunk near ground level and 120 degree lean towards proposed new home construction. Results: Poor vigor, decay and rot along with lean are a major safety concern, this tree has a high probability of failure once all new construction has been completed. Tree 9 & 10 Description: Location: Front area proposed entry to home Species: Quercus virginiana Trunk: DBH (17.2 & 13.9 inches) Site Observations: Thick leaf cover, limited sunlight. Crowded location, multiple sabal palms within several feet of each other causing competition for water and nutrient uptake from soil. Visible Defects: Both oaks have structural issues from reduced photosynthesis, poor canopy vigor. Results: Both trees are likely to fail presenting a danger to surrounding healthier vegetation. There is a high probability they will not survive new construction and the use of heavy equipment in the root zone area. Recommendations: Removal is recommended for both oaks. 5 Tree 13 Description: Location: Front area northwest corner Species: Sabal palmetto Trunk: DBH (12 inches) Site Observations: Heavy shade cover from surrounding canopy, root soil depth is concerning Visible Defects: 120 degree lean and load weight towards proposed new home construction, and canopy vigor is poor. Results: Poor vigor, and lean are a major safety concern for this palm and the direction of lean. Recommendations: Removal is recommended. Tree 12 Description: Location: Front area northwest corner Species: Sabal palmetto Trunk: DBH (11 inches) Site Observations: Thick leaf cover, limited sunlight and root competition for soil nutrients and water. Crowded location with large live oaks nearby. Visible Defects: Palm is dead. Results: Heavy shade and root competition most likely caused death of this palm. Recommendations: Removal is recommended. 6 Tree 14 Description: Location: Front area Species: Sabal palmetto volunteers Site Observations: Heavy shade cover from surrounding canopy, crowding. Visible Defects: Volunteer palms growing in clump form Results: Direct competition for soil nutrients and water with mature palms located next to them. Tree 13 Description: Location: Front area (West) Species: Sabal palmetto volunteer (pup) Trunk: DBH (4 inches) Site Observations: Developed next to 9.7” DBH sabal palm. Visible Defects: Immature growth status, causing competition for 9.7” DBH sabal next to it. Results: Should be removed, reduce root space crowding Recommendations: Removal is recommended. 7 Tree 16 Description: Location: Front area Southwest corner Species: Quercus virginiana Trunk: DBH (19.9 inches) Site Observations: Heavy shade cover from surrounding canopy, compacted soil and root competition. Visible Defects: Bleeding from main trunk approximately one foot from grade, and seven feet from grade indicates internal wood decay, Hypoxylon canker in main trunk at first main lateral branch union on the east facing side of tree. Results: Multiple issues with this tree indicates poor health and a high risk of failure. This tree presents a danger to surrounding vegetation and property. Recommendations: Removal is recommended. Tree 15 Description: Location: Front area (West) Species: Quercus virginiana volunteer Trunk: DBH (3 inches) Site Observations: Poor sunlight, root competition. Visible Defects: Poor overall structure, poor canopy vigor, missing half of canopy due to lack of sunlight and photosynthesis activity. Results: Poor quality volunteer with structural issues at a young age will result in failure as it matures. Recommendations: Removal is recommended. Figure 13. Tree 17 Description: Location: Back area (Northwest) corner Species: Sabal Palmetto Trunk: DBH (10.9 inches) Site Observations: Apical meristem (main bud) is growing into 29” DBH Magnolia canopy. Visible Defects: Loss of vigor, canopy crown and new bud growth are deforming due to lack of sunlight and photosynthesis activity. Results: Structural issues becoming an issue, crowding of mature trees will cause this palm to eventually fail. Recommendations: Removal is recommended. Tree 18 Description: Location: Front area Southeast Approximately 10’ from Beachcomber Species: Sabal Palmetto Trunk: DBH (11.4 inches) Site Observations: Heavy shade cover from surrounding canopy, compacted soil and root competition, topography is somewhat flat. Visible Defects: Cavity at the base of trunk (see Figure 16), crown shaft has a bend and bark peeling on most of the trunk surface. Results: Size of cavity at the base of trunk poses a high risk of failure, and presents a danger to surrounding vegetation and property. High wind events pose significant risk to this palm. Client further understands that Client is responsible for choosing to accept or disregard the recommendations of the arborist or to seek additional advice. Client also understands that arborists cannot detect every condition affecting tree health or that could possibly lead to the structural failure of a tree. Trees are living organisms that grow, respond to their environment, mature, decline, and fail in ways we do not fully understand. Conditions impacting health and safety are often hidden within trees and belowground. Arborists cannot guarantee that a tree will be healthy or safe under all circumstances, or for a specified period of time. Likewise, remedial treatments, as any medicine, cannot be guaranteed. With reference to safety, Client understands that trees can be managed, but they cannot be controlled. To live near trees is to accept some degree of risk. The only way to eliminate all risk associated with trees is to eliminate all trees. Client understands that Consultant provides services utilizing applicable standard industry practices and based on the facts and conditions known at the point in time the services are performed. Facts and conditions related to the subject of the services may change over time. Consultant cannot predict or determine developments concerning the subject of the services and will not be liable for any developments, changes, or conditions that occur, including, but not limited to, decay or damage by the elements, persons or implements, insect infestation, deterioration, conditions not discoverable using the means and methods utilized to perform the services, or act of God or nature or otherwise. Client understands that Consultant may have reviewed publicly available or other third-party records or conducted interviews and has assumed the genuineness of such documents and statements. Consultant disclaims any liability for errors, omissions, or inaccuracies resulting from or contained in any information obtained from any third-party source. Except as expressly agreed to by Consultant, Client acknowledges and agrees that the services are provided as-is, the Client assumes all risks and liability arising from or relating to its use of and reliance upon the services, and Consultant makes no representation or warranty with respect thereto. EXCEPT AS EXPRESS AGREED TO BY CONSULTANT, CONSULTANT EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES REGARDING THE SERVICES, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY IN REGARD TO QUALITY, PERFORMANCE, NONINFRINGEMENT, COMMERCIAL UTILITY, MERCHANTABILITY, OR FITNESS OF THE SERVICES FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Client understands that treatment, pruning, and removal of trees may involve considerations beyond the scope of the arborist’s services such as property boundaries, property ownership, disputes between neighbors, and other issues. Arborists must rely on the completeness and accuracy of information that is disclosed. Client hereby releases Consultant from liability and agrees to defend, indemnify and hold Consultant harmless from any and all claims, liabilities, damages or expenses arising, in whole or in part, from the foregoing, including, without limitation, claims of negligence, trespass, and conversion.
