ROOF22-0045 ALL WEATHER/EMPIRE ™BASE SHEET MODIFIED BITUMEN COATED FIBER GLASS BASE SHEET Product Use:ALL WEATHER/EMPIRE Base Sheet is designed for use as a base sheet for both hot and cold applied, built-up roofing systems. It is suitable for use in the construction of various types of membranes for both new construction and reroofing, over a variety of substrates. ALL WEATHER/EMPIRE will provide additional strength, moisture resistance and asphalt uniformity when used as the first ply over nailable, non-nailable and insulated substrates. In addition, it will perform as a venting base sheet when spot mopped over plastic foam-type insulations. It is acceptable for use with both organic and inorganic roof membranes whenever a heavy duty base sheet is desired. ALL WEATHER/EMPIRE Base Sheet is also acceptable for use as a UL Classified underlayment beneath CertainTeed Symphony™Slate Roofing. Limitations: ALL WEATHER/EMPIRE Base Sheet may be applied in either hot asphalt or approved cold adhesive such as FlintBond™ depending on system design and selection. Rolls should be stored upright, off ground, completely protected from the weather. Roof decks shall be structurally sound, dry, smooth and meet or exceed minimum requirements of the deck manufacturer, local code and CertainTeed.Roof decks shall provide positive drainage. Additional specifications and precautions are contained in the CertainTeed Commercial Roof Systems Manual. Product Composition and Features:ALL WEATHER/ EMPIRE Base Sheet is manufactured on a durable, high-quality fiber glass mat that receives a coating of modified bitumen compound. The final product is lightly surfaced with a mineral release agent. The modified bitumen coating provides excellent moisture resistance and durability. ALL WEATHER/EMPIRE Base Sheet is pliable and will conform to most surfaces for ease of application. Applicable Standards:ALL WEATHER / EMPIRE Base Sheet is approved by Underwriters Laboratories for use in various Class A, B, or C roof assemblies, ICC-ES (ESR-1388), Factory Mutual, Miami-Dade, Florida Building Code Statewide Approval (FL 477 and FL 479). Stagger the rolls across the roof. Avoid excessive weight in a concentrated area. Weather Precautions Do not attempt application if weather conditions and substrate are not dry. Do not attempt application if ice, frost, moisture or snow is present. Rolls can be installed in cold weather if conditions are dry, the rolls have not been allowed to freeze and proper cold weather handling and storage procedures are followed. Store rolls in a heated area until just prior to use and do not proceed with installation if rolls have been allowed to freeze or weather conditions are unsuitable. In extremely warm weather, use caution when walking on freshly installed material to avoid ”tracking” warm asphalt; when torch applying smooth APP membrane in very warm weather the installer can walk beside the sheet being applied (as is the standard torch method with mineral surfaced APP and SBS membrane) to avoid tracking. Roof Slope and Drainage All roof decks to which the Flintlastic modified bitumen roof system is to be installed must have a minimum slope of 1/4" per foot (as recommended by the NRCA) and must have positive drainage. See also “Roof Layout” on page 8 of this handbook. Greater slope may be necessary as part of the structural design, depending upon the particular building, to accommodate rapid and thorough run-off of precipitation. Substrate Preparation All surfaces to which the Flintlastic modified bitumen is to be installed must be smooth, dry, free from dust or debris, free from settling or distortion, and free from cracks, knotholes, or other defects. Primer Concrete decks must be properly primed with suitable asphalt primer (meeting ASTM D-41) and the primer must be thoroughly dry. 4
