AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 60-66-1
41, REGULATING THE LOCATION, CONSTRUCTION, SIZE,
AND MAINTENANCE OF SIGNS, BILL BOARDS, MARQUEES,
CANOPIES AND AWNINGS IN THE CITY OF ATLANTIC
BEACH, DUVAL COUNTY, FLORIDA; BY DELETING THERE-
FROM PARAGRAPH 11 IN SECTION II THEREOF, AND
SUBSTITUTING THEREFOR A NEW PARAGRAPH 11; BY
DELETING THEREFROM PARAGRAPH 8, ITEM B, SECTION
IV AND SUBSTITUTING THEREFOR A NEW PARAGRAPH 8;
AND ADDING A NEW PARAGRAPH DESIGNATED AS PARA-
GRAPH 11, ITEM B, SECTION IV THEREOF.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH,
DUVAL COUNTY, FLORIDA:
SECTION I.
Paragraph 11 of Section II Exemptions, Ordinance No. 60-66-1,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Directional signs of any religious, charitable,
fraternal, civic organizations, or business estab-
lishments operated within the City, having a meet-
ing place, club house or other site within the City
for the purpose of indicating the place where such
club house, meeting place or site is located in the
• City. Such directional signs shall not exceed
3 ' x 4 ' and not more than 10' in overall height
above ground level. These directional signs shall
not exceed four (4) in number for each business or
organization and must be no less than 1000' from
another directional sign of the same business or
organization. Any directional sign existing at the
time of passage of this section of the Ordinance shall
be allowed to remain until such time as the condition
of the sign becomes unsafe, unsightly, or in need of
major repairs, at which time it shall be removed.
Any structural repairs to existing signs shall not
be made without a permit. Before any directional
signs can be installed after the passage of this
section of the Ordinance, a permit must be obtained
from the City specifying design, lighting, if any,
and location" .
SECTION II.
Paragraph 8 of Section IV, Item B, General Provisions, Ordinance
No. 60-66-1, is hereby amended as follows:
"Registered Engineer ' s drawings must be submitted
with applications for roof signs over fifty (50)
square feet in area, and for any sign, the top of
411 which is more than seventeen (17) feet above the
ground or weighing more than one thousand (1, 000)
pounds, or any solid sign of area more than thirty
(30) square feet, showing that such sign will be

erected to withstand a wind pressure of at least
thirty-five (35) pounds per square foot and that
the weight of such sign will be amply supported
by the roof of the building or the ground support
on which it is to be erected".
SECTION III
To Section IV, Item B, General Provisions, Ordinance No. 60-66-i,
add paragraph 11 as follows :
"Sign area shall be computed as the smallest square
rectangle, triangle, circle or combination thereof
which will encompass the entire advertising area
excluding architectural trim and structural supports.
When computing sign area, only one side of a sign
containing two faces shall be computed" .
SECTION IV
This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final read-
ing.
