Re: Tree Evaluation on: 22" Long Leaf Pine (Pinus palustris)

On Thursday, April 21, 2022 I visited 1335 Main Street, Atlantic Beach to evaluate a 22" Long Leaf Pine.
As seen in the picture the lower part of the trunk is suffering from a bacterial soil pathogen that infects
wound sites called Agobacterium tumefaciens. In the wound area small swellings that can resemble callus
tissue which can be a spongy and crumbling woody material. This tree has a severe case and the infection has
eaten into at least 2/3 of the cambium tissue and bark creating instability in the structural integrity of the
tree. It is my opinion that this tree is extremely hazardous and has many targets of failure with its proximity
to homes, fences, etc. I recommend removal.
