They address the district representation issue that was discussed at the last CRC meeting on March 23rd, 2023, and may be coming up for a vote at the next meeting April 26, 2023. My hope is after seeing the process, time and talent that went into this report, my fellow CRC members will have a better understanding of why the DRC (chaired by Former Mayor Lyman Fletcher and 14 other well-respected community members), unanimously supported district representation, and why many in our community stand behind their recommendation. I fail to understand the motivation to change an electoral process that has only been in place about 15 years out of nearly 100 years of COAB incorporation, and has been working. My district has seen just 4 elected commissioners so far (Dougherty, Harding, Norris and Ring) since implementation. Prior to 2007, not a single elected official came from District 13S (1312) and most resided east of Seminole Rd. As the only CRC member who is a resident of the district cited in this report as being historically underrepresented for the entirety of COAB’s history, I am qualified to address this topic, however the District Representation Study Report attached states my position far better than I ever could. I hope the Charter Review Committee members find these documents helpful. See attached pdf files:
