470 Garden Lane—Deck Notes and Specs
I am submitting a permit for a 10 ft x 12 ft Deck that will be built at the front entrance to the house
highlighted on attached survey). Below is summation of materials and process
Deck and Framing Materials
Framing will consist of dimensional lumber Treated for Ground Contact
Decking will consist of Trex Composite
Design
Permeable landscape fabric and gravel will be placed underneath the surface area of the deck
to allow for proper drainage
3 support beams will be spaced no more than 5 feet apart and will run perpendicular to the
entrance of the house
o The beam will consist of a double 2 x 6 which will sandwich a 4x4 beam
The beams will be secured to the 4x4 by two 1/2 inch lag bolt
The 4x4 will be cemented 2 feet into the ground
o Given that there is only a 6 inch gap between the ground and the door to the house a
trench will need to be dug to allow the 4x4 posts and bottom of the beam to sit below
grade
The trench will be dug to allow the posts and the beam to sit in the trench
without coming in contact with the ground
Landscape fabric and gravel will be placed in the bottom of the trench to
assist with drainage
o For the concrete piers, At the bottom of the trench post holes will be dug and
additional two(2)feet
Each post holes will be filled with a 8" diameter form filled with concrete
A 4x4 will sit 2 feet in the holes surrounded by concrete
2 x 6 joists will sit on top of the double 2x6 beams attached with joist hangers and spaced
every 12 inches on center
o For Permeability purposes please note-Joists will sit at least 4 inches above the soil
with the given specs of Trench, Beam, posts etc.
Each joist will be attached to the beam with Samson Strong Ties/Hurricane Ties
Trex Composite flooring will be secured to the frame—spaced at least 1/8 inches apart
For Permeable purposes please note - this Deck will not contain a roof
