ORDINANCE Number 62.
AN ORDINANCE Establishing Street Numbering Districts and Systems
in the Town of Atlantic Beach; Imposing Certain Duties on the
Building Inspector, Regulating Assignment, Placement and Mainte-
nance of Street Numbers on Buildings :within the Town; providing
Penalties for Violations Thereof ; and Repealing Ordinance Number
16-A and Other Ordinances in Conflict Herewith.
Be it Ordained by the Mayor and Town Council of the Town
of Atlantic Beach , Florida:
SECTION 1. Each and every building, place of residence or
place of business in the Town of Atlantic Beach, Florida, which
fronts on any public street, is hereby required to have a street
building , residence or business) number according to a system as
hereinafter set forth and provided.
SECTION 2. The number or numbers assigned to any building
shall be permanently attached in a suitable manner as determined
by the Building Inspector and shall be attached to the outside of
the building in a conspicuous place easily discernable from the
street upon which the building faces.
SECTION 3. It shall be the duty of the Building Inspector
to assign each building a number or numbers, to attach or to have
attached the assigned number or numbers , end to do all things
necessary and practical to carry into effect the intent and
provisions of this Ordinance.
SECTION 4. The Town is hereby divided into street number-
ing districts as follows :
A. First District: All that part of the Town lying East
and South and including both sides of the following streets:
Sherry Drive between Atlantic Boulevard and Twelfth Street;
Twelfth Street between Sherry Drive and East Coast Drive ;
East Coast Drive between Twelfth sAreet and Sixteenth
Street.

C . Third District: All that part of the Town not with-
in the First and Second Districts.
SECTION 5. The Building Inspector is hereby directed to
assign, within a reasonable time , street numbers within the
certain street numbering districts as follows :
A. In the First District according to the system of
numbering as follows :
aOn streets running from South to North and more
Northerly than Easterly or Nesterly, only odd numbers (not
evenly divided by 2) shall be assigned to buildings on the
easterly side and only even numbers (evenly divided by 2)
shall be assigned to buildings on the 'Nesterly side.
b) On streets running from East to Nest and more
Westerly than Northerly or Southerly, only odd numbers shall
be assigned to buildings on the Northerly side and only even
numbers shall be assigned to buildings on the Southerly side.
c ) Atlantic Boulevard on the South and the Ocean Beach
at the concrete seawall) on thc East are hereby declared
and determined to be the 0 (zero) coordinates or axes of
this numbering system. Numbers shall run from 0 ( zero) on
the South to the North and from 0 ( zero) on the East to
est.
d) On every street 100 numbers shall be assigned per
block (50 numbers on each side) ; except on streets running
from South to North where "named" streets ( instead of the
usual "numbered" streets ) intersect and cross said streets
running from South to North and, in such case, 100 numbers
shall be assigned to several blocks in such a manner that
the number of the hundred block (Example : 12 hundred block)

to North where "numbered" streets , if extended Easterly,
would intersect said streets running from South to North
and, in such case, the number of the hundred block shall
cease and the next number of the hundred block shall
commence , as if the "numbered" street had extended
Lasterly.
te) Each street number on each side of a street shall
be measured one from the other ( in quotient feet) by
dividing the length ( in feet ) of the street (for which
100 numbers were assigned) by the numeral 50. Any given
building shall be assigned the number or numbers (within
the 100 numbers assigned to the part of block, or several blocks
in which the given building is situated) by dividing the distance
in feet) of one number from the other (assigned or un-
assigned) , and the number or numbers having the closest
non-fractional value for that side of the street shall be
the number assigned.
B. In the Second District according to the system of
numbering as follows :
a) According to section 5 A ( a)

c) Atlantic Boulevard on the South and Saltair 3oulevard
through the District are hereby declared and determined
to be the 0 ( zero) coordinates or axes of this numbering
system. Numbers shall run from 0 ( zero) on the South to
the North, and from 0 ( zero) on the aouth to the North,
and from 0 (zero) at ._,altair Boulevard to the East and to
the gest.
d) On every street 100 numbers shall be assigned per
block (50 numbers on each side) .
e) According to Section 5 A (e) .

c) Atlantic Boulevard on the South and the First and
Second Districts on the East are hereby declared end
determined to be the 0 ( zero) coordinates or axes of this
numbering system, except where the street is a continua-
tion of a street in the First or Second Districts end, in
such case , the coordinates or axes shall be that of the
First or Second District, whichever is the case.
d) On every street 100 numbers shall be assigned for
every 500 feet , except where streets intersect less than
1000 feet apart and in that case 100 numbers shall be
assigned according to Section 5 B (d) .
e) According to Section 5 A (e) .
SECTION 6. The Town shall furnish the first and initial
number or numbers to be attached under the provisions of this
Ordinance, to any and all buildings now or hereafter erected with-
out cost or expense to the owners of the buildings. Nothing here-
in contained shall prevent the owners of the buildings from plac-
ing or attaching numbers furnished by the owner , provided no attempt
is made to change the assigned number or numbers of the building or
buildings.
SECTION 7. Each person, firm or corporation who intentional-
ly and unlawfully interfers or attempts to interfere with the carry-
into effect of the intention and provisions of this Ordinance, or
removes or defaces or attempts to remove or deface the numbers
attached to buildings under the provisions of this Ordinance, shall ,
upon conviction, be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished
by a fine of not more than Fifty Dollars ($50) or by imprisonment
for not more than Thirty days, or both.
SECTION 8. All Ordinances in conflict herewith are here-
by repealed. Ordinance No. 16A, entitled "An Ordinance Requiring
Property Owners to Number Buildings" , passed by the Town Council
