A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA,
RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ALL WHO SERVED ON THE
RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD '
WHEREAS, the Recreation Advisory Board was created by Resolution No. 90-2 on January 22,
1990; and
WHEREAS, since its inception 25 people have served as members of the Recreation Advisory
Board; and
WHEREAS, through the efforts and creative ideas of the board members many worthwhile and
enjoyable recreational enhancements such as improvements to Bull Memorial Park, increased
summer and after school programs, the purchase and development of additional park property,
and improvements at Atlantic Beach Elementary School have been initiated by the members of this
board; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has deemed that a more comprehensive approach to the
cultural, artistic and recreational needs of the city may be achieved by combining the Recreation Advisory
Board and the Cultural Arts Board into one body and on July 8, 2002, by adoption of Resolution No. 02-
13, created a new committee known as the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee to plan,
promote, and review artistic, recreational and cultural programs,
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, as
follows:
SECTION L The City Commission recognizes and appreciates all who served and enhanced
the quality of life for the citizens of Atlantic Beach through their service on the Recreation Advisory
Board.
SECTION 2. The City Commission hereby recognizes Dejean Melancon, Barbara Hopson,
Phillip Corp, Ray Coleman, and Tom Vogel who were members of the Recreation Advisory Board when
the new committee was established and invites them to continue their service to the City and their fellow
citizens through other City boards or committees in which they may be interested.
