RESOLUTION NO. 00-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA,
REQUESTING THE JACKSONVILLE TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY TO
MODIFY THE LANDSCAPING PLANS FOR THE MAYPORT FLYOVER TO
REPLACE THE PROPOSED BERM WITH A BAND OF TREES AND SHRUBS;
TO APPLY THE RESULTING COST SAVINGS TO PARK, ROADWAY AND
DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS NECESSITATED BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF
THE MAYPORT FLYOVER; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, certain negative impacts of the Flyover project have been identified, including,
noise abatement, location of retention ponds, and traffic circulation, and
WHEREAS, the Atlantic Beach City Commission has a desire to improve the landscaping
Ilk and buffering of properties within the project area, and
WHEREAS, the Atlantic Beach City Commission has determined that the proposed berm
can be replaced with a landscaped buffer of trees and shrubs, resulting in an equivalent sound
reduction level,
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach
as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach City hereby requests the
Jacksonville Transportation Authority to modify the Mayport Flyover project plans by replacing the
proposed berm with a buffer of trees and shrubs and to extend this buffer northward past West First
Street in order to reduce noise impacts on residents resulting from the construction of the Mayport
Flyover.
SECTION 2. The City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach further requests the
Jacksonville Transportation Authority to cooperate with City staff in applying the resulting cost
savings to improvement of key roadways to mitigate traffic flow pattern changes caused by the
Flyover project and to improvements west of Mayport Road to provide needed recreational facilities
for nearby residents.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage and adoption.
