We understand proposed alterations include removal of the first level interior floor load bearing wall, spanning north/south, that support conventional framed dimension lumber floor joist spanning east/west. Work associated has been classified as level 2 alteration, as defined by 8t Edition (2023) Florida Building Code (FBC) for Existing Structures, section 603. We have reviewed the existing conditions during a site visit on Monday January 22nd 2024. The following outlines the required alteration elements: • Interior 2x4 frame wall spanning+/- 18' from the interior separation wall of the adjoining unit is proposed to be removed. This wall supports 2x8 floor joist @ 16" on center spanning east/west the full width of the conditioned footprint. Review of the second level roof construction identified roof truss framing that span from exterior wall to exterior wall, therefore no roof loads are communicated to the altered framing below. For this reason, no wind generated uplift demand is anticipated. Mechanical connector uplift load path to strap beam to studs and anchor studs to foundation is not required and may be provided by the contractor as desired. o (4) 1 3/4" x 11 7/8" x +/- 18'-9" long 2.0e LVL shall be framed in place of the bearing wall. Fasten plies of the beam with (2) Rows '/4" x 6" long SDS or #14 wood screws @ 24" on center applied at both faces of the beam. Stagger rows of screws on each face and offset fasteners from opposite faces of the beam to avoid conflict. The new LVL can be upset so that the top of the LVL is flush with the top of existing 2x8 floor joist.
