RESOLUTION NO. 87-5
WHEREAS, The City of Atlantic Beach recognizes the need to estab-
lish a Public Statement of Goals and Policies with which to guide both
public and private companies and organizations in planning for the
future; and
WHEREAS, the Statement of Goals and Policies should address the
social, economic and physical make-up of the Beaches to assure that all
citizens have access to the necessities that make life valuable,
fulfilling, and useful; and
WHEREAS, the Beaches communities of Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach
and Jacksonville Beach are concerned with enhancing the quality of life
at the Beaches; and
WHEREAS, the Beaches Development Department of the Jacksonville
Chamber of Commerce will address short to long-range planning in its
1987-88 program of work; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Florida encourages munic-
ipalities to establish committees which will provide a forum to facili-
tate discussion of and provide a community consensus for the proper
sense of direction for the future of the municipality; and
WHEREAS, municipalities are encouraged to jointly establish, by
Resolution, Visions 2000 committees; and
WHEREAS, the Visions process is a proven method of strategic
planning which can assist business and community leaders to articulate
their goals for the future and direct their energies toward their
accomplishment
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in concert with the Cities of
Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach, and the Beaches Development
Department of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, the City of Atlantic
Beach wishes to establish a 2000 Visions Committee which will provide a
forum to facilitate discussion of and provide a community consensus for
the proper sense of direction for the future of the Beaches. These
Goals and Policies shall provide overall guidance to local government,
public and private institutions, and the business community, and shall
not be inconsistent with the guidelines in the state, regional, or local
plans.
