RESOLUTION NO. 87-13
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION, CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA'S FIRST COAST, SAY NO TO
DRUGS
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach has
recognized the importance of alcohol and drug prevention and is commit-
ted to helping young people in Atlantic Beach and the First Coast free
themselves from drug and alcohol abuse, and
WHEREAS, there is evidence that an alarming number of young people
in the area use drugs, including alcohol, and
WHEREAS, there is a strong relationship between early drug and
alcohol usage and future drug dependency, and
WHEREAS, the level of drug abuse among young people in Atlantic
Beach and the First Coast is unacceptable for our community, and
WHEREAS, the agencies, organizations, professions and individuals
that are concerned with drug use are urgently voicing the need for the
First Coast communities to make a renewed commitment to stop the spread
of drug use that is destroying the lives of our children and young
people, and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach is
serious in its resolve to begin to win the fight against youth drug use
and to promote a drug-free lifestyle as the desired trend for its youth
and future citizens, and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach recog-
nizes that it is important to this community that its young people be
free from drug and alcohol abuse, and
WHEREAS, The City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach is
committed to assisting in fighting this menace to our community and to
the lives of our young people,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF ATLANTIC BEACH, that we are committed to joining in "Jacksonville and
the First Coast Says No To Drugs" and will participate in all of the
events that will lead to Atlantic Beach and the First Coast stopping
drug and alcohol abuse by our young people.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH commits its organization to fight drug abuse and alcohol
abuse by our young people and urges all of Atlantic Beach and the First
Coast to take a bold stand to demonstrate our determination in "Saying
No To Drugs."
