RESOLUTION 87-27
WHEREAS, the U.S.S. Stark has recently completed a tour of duty in
the Persian Gulf; and
WHEREAS, the U.S.S. Stark was the target of a missile from an
Iraqi plane which resulted in the death and injury of a number of United
States servicemen; and
WHEREAS, through the officers and men surviving, the U.S.S. Stark
was saved from sinking; and
WHEREAS the U.S.S. Stark has returned to its home port at the
Mayport Naval Station; and
WHEREAS, the City of Atlantic Beach and its citizens wish to
recognize and commend the officers and men of the U.S.S. Stark,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The officers and crew of the U.S.S. Stark are hereby
commended for their outstanding bravery and dedication to duty following
a deadly missile attack in the Persian Gulf which nearly sank their
vessel.
Section 2. The City of Atlantic Beach and its citizens extend
to the families and loved ones of the dead, missing and injured their
heartfelt condolences and sympathy.
Section 3. That certified copies of this Resolution be fur-
nished to the Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Stark and spread upon the
official minutes of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida.
Adopted unanimously by the City Commission of Atlantic Beach,
Florida this 10th day of August , 1987.
