87-38 v CITY OF /*tla ct& &iatl - 41edet • No. 87-38 WHEREAS, on October 4, 1987, Lieutenant Nicholas Vander Wal observed a traffic accident on Mayport Road during routine patrol, and WHEREAS, a motorcycle had been hit by a pick-up truck, rupturing the gas tank of the motorcycle which had burst into flames, and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Nicholas Vander Wal immediately blocked traffic, and with utter disregard for his own safety, moved to the assistance of the motorcycle rider who was unconscious and lying in a puddle of burning gasoline, and WHEREAS, the Mayor and members of the City Commission and the City of Atlantic Beach wish to express their appreciation to Lieutenant Nicholas Vander Wal, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Mayor and members of the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida, hereby commend Lieutenant Nicholas Vander Wal for his heroic and courageous actions in saving the life of an injured motorcyclist on October 4, 1987 on Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach. Section 2. That a certified copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official minutes of the City, Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida, and a copy of said Resolution be presented to Lieutenant Nicholas Vander Wal with the grateful thanks of the people of Atlantic Beach.
