83-21 v • RESOLUTION NO. 83-21 A RESOLUTION APPEALING FOR THE RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF DIVISION OF COUNTY COURT IN THE BEACHES AREA AS PROVIDED BY REVISED ARTICLE V OF THE CONSTI- TUTION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Chief Judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit of the State of Florida discontinued the practice of conducting court one day per week in Jacksonville Beach approximately five years ago, and WHEREAS, the citizens of Atlantic Beach and their government have found this to be a great disservice and inconvenience to the beach area residents, business community, military, and law enforcement agencies, and WHEREAS, the direct and indirect costs associated with the lack of a court in the beaches area have placed an unjust burden upon those residents living and working east of the intracoastal waterway, and WHEREAS, the rapid growth in the eastern portion of Duval County, including the expansion of the Naval Facilities Mayport, require increased and expanded services for all governmental agencies, and WHEREAS, the court case load from the eastern portion of Duval County justifies a division of the court in the beaches area, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach urge the Chief Judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit to re-establish a division of the County Court at the beaches as provided in revised Article V of the Constitution of the State of Florida. Section 2. That the City Clerk of the City of Atlantic Beach is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Clifford B. Shepherd and to the Duval County Legislative Delegation.
