SACRIFICE, ALdD TO RECOGNIZE THOSE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH GJHO CC}NTI TO SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES. OF THESE ULtxTED STATES, TnTHEREAS Fred Lorraine was a resident of the Beaches as a youth and until he joined the United States Air Force in 1950, and was the personal friend of many of the residents of the City of Atlantic Beach, and WHEREAS on January 28, 2964 an unarmed training aircraft piloted by Captain Fred Lorraine was attacked and destroyed by enemy fighter aircraft over East Germany, without warning or provoca- tion, causing the death of Captain Fred. Lorraine. and his two passengers, and WHEREAS it is still encumbent upon able and qualified residents of our City, when called, to serve in the Armed. Forces of our country, I~IOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED Atlantic Beach shall honor the his devotion to Duty, and the racy for which he died. the City Commission, City of memory of Captain Fred Lorraine, principles of Freedom and Democ- FURTHERMORE we do hereby establish the Captain Fred Lorraine Memorial Honor Roll, to be perpetually maintained and permanent- ly displayed in the meeting chambers of the Government of Atlantic Beach. FURTHERMORE the City Commission shall cause the. names of those residents of the City of Atlantic Beach, who are actively serv- ing or who shall actively serve in the Armed Forces of our Country, to be suitably inscribed on this Honor Roll when such names are brought to the Commission`s attention. FURTHERMORE: we call upon the residents of Atlantic Beach to support, encourage, and respect those who serve in our Armed Forces now and in the future; to foster the principles on which our Gauntry was founded; and to instill in acxr youth, the Heritage our Servicemen are sworn to defend. ~ ~r ~x Passed by the City Commission on October 23, 1967.
