63-02RESOLUTION #63-2 WHEREAS, the. City of Atlantic Beach, a municipal corpora- tion of the State of Florida, is located on and along the Eastern Coast of the United States encl. adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean, and WHEREAS, the Seawall along the Eastern boundary of the City suffered a severe buffeting and scouring of sand in the recent storm, and WHEREAS, experts in the field of beach erosion have determined that such damage was the result of the rising level of the sea and the shore erosion problem. which con- tinues to exist, and WHEREAS, the President of the United States has declared the adjoining Cities of Neptune and Jacksonville Beach, Florida, a disaster area, and WHEREAS, said experts believe that long--range planning is necessary to prevent further erosion damage, and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida, deems it to be in the best interest of the United States, the State of Florida, and adjacent: municipalities to follow the advice of beach erosion experts with respect to such long-range planning and the implementation thereof; WHEREAS, the Committee on Public Warks of the United States Senate did adopt on January ?, 1963, a resolution request- ing the Chief of Engineers to make a survey of the shores in Duval and St. Johns Counties, Florida, with particular reference to Neptune Beach, Florida, and such adjacent shores as may be necessary, in the interest of beach erosion control, hurricane protection, and related purposes; copy of said resolution being attached to and made a part hereof. Tr10W THEREFORE BE IT .RESOLVED, that the senate and House of Representatives of the United States Congress be, and they are hereby, requested to adopt resolutions, and such addi- tional legislation as may be necessary to conduct proper studies and authorize long-range planning to combat erasion, and to prevent further damage to the lands and property adjacent to the ocean beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, and Resolution #63-2 BE I'I' FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Committee on Public Warks of the United States Senate be requested to enlarge its resolution adopted January 7, 1963, so as to also include particular reference to Atlantic Beach, Floridan BE TT FURTHER RESOL~7ED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to each Senator and A+iember of the House of Representatives from the Second Congressional District, State of Florida, ~ ~ ~ ~ Passed by the City Commission on January 2nd, 19630 Attesto 1 (S~.AL) Adele So Crage, City Clerk ~. ..
