10-16-84 v MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH CITY
COMMISSION HELD AT THE CITY HALL ON OCTOBER 16, 1984 AT 7:00 P.M.
PRESENT: William S. Howell, Mayor-Commissioner
Robert B. Cook, Sr.
William I. Gulliford, Jr.
Catherine G. Van Ness, Commissioners. Comm.Van Ness arrived at 7 :05 pm
AND: A. William Moss, City Manager
Adelaide R. Tucker, City Clerk
ABSENT: John W. Morris, Jr. , Commissioner - Hospitalized
Claude L. Mullis, City Attorney - Out of town
Mayor Howell called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of
appointing someone to fill the vacancy of Mr. George Bull, Jr. on the Board of
Adjustment.
Mayor Howell moved to appoint Mr. Samuel T. Howie to fill the appointment
to the Board of Adjustment. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Cook.
Following discussion the question was called and the motion carried unani-
mously with Mayor Howell and Commissioners Cook and Gulliford voting aye.
Commissioner Van Ness was not present to vote.

Mr. Moss advised the Commissioners of an emergency that existed concerning the
sewer system. Two lift stations went down over the weekend. City crews worked
all weekend and one station was back on line by Monday. The lift station on May-
port Road was still down. Mr.Tim Townsend, head operator of the sewer plant
briefed the Commission on the details. Mr.Moss added that in-house labor cannot
handle the project in any reasonable amount of time. A proposal has been offered
by Ron May of Gruhn May to repair the lift station for $5,200.
Commissioner Gulliford moved, on emergency, to approve the proposal offered
by Ron May of Gruhn May to repair the lift station on Mayport Road for the
amount of $5,200. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Van Ness and
carried unanimously with four voting aye.

There being no other business to come before the Commission, Mayor Howell
declared the meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
