Re: Grandy Residence, Lot 16 Beachside Court
Gentlemen:
As Architect of the subject residence I am aware that Section
1112 .5 . 1 of the Standard Building Code provides that stairways have
handrails not less than 30 nor more than 34 inches above the
leading edge of a tread, and that some of the handrails in the
Grandy Residence are less than 30 inches high. I have reviewed
these conditions with the Owner and believe that the handrails as
installed are reasonable satisfactory for their intended uses.
I am also aware that Section 1121, Exception 2, provides that
porches more than 30 inches above grade require guardrails, and
that guardrails for dwellings may be 36 inches high. I have
reviewed several conditions in which guardrails are less than 36
inches high, but nonetheless I consider them to be reasonably
satisfactory for their intended uses .

Gentlemen:
I am writing you at the request of Mr. William Morgan, Architect,
for the above mentioned residence.
I worked for Mr. Morgan as a consulting structural engineer on the
above residence and completed the structural design shown on the
drawings, including the cuttingk-t"W--o of the interior gluelam beams
that support the main f loor, over the garage. The beams were
designed to be cut as shown on Section 7/11, so that all three
beams, at the main floor, would be the same size where cantilevered
beyond the block wall, as shown in the west elevation on Sheet No.
4 ( 2/4) .
