Present: D.H. Stynchcomb, Chairman Mabel Marvin Secretary John Printon, City Manager Alan Potter Absent: Carroll West J.B. Claiborne, Commissioner The meeting was called to order by the Chairman Mr. Stynchcomb. Minutes of the last meeting were read. The Board studied the application from Beach Auto Sales to erect a non illuminated 4 X 8 sign, at 160 Mayport Road, and will recommend to the commission this request be denied. We feel the preponderance of signs t ground level or nearly so are distracting to the motorist and tend to make it difficult for pedestrians to see on coming traffic and thereby constitutes a traffic hazard. Mr. Potter, called attention to the junk cars at various garag'a- in the city and suggested maybe the ordinance could be tightened to handle this situation, and if the ordinance states fines in case they do not conform. The zoning and sign situation was discussed at great length, and Mr. Stynchcomb, appointed the following committee: Mr. Printon, Mabel Marvin, Allan Potter, to confer with the City Attorney, and study how to improve or strengthen current zoning laws, and also make a study of the sign situation. The Board will recommend to the commission the remoning of property located southerly of Lewis Street, and north of Levy Road, extending to west city limits from classification "D" , to "Light Industria". to include southerly of Lewis Street of Main Street , then southerly of north city limits , then bounded on west by west city limits and south by Levy Road. Also included in this tract is a small part now Zoned "Business B". The purpose for this recommendation is to set aside a reasonable tract of land that can be used for industrial purposes and provide the city with a means whereby light industry can be invited to locate here. The recommendation was made that the City Manager, notify the Florida Development Commission of the availability of this land and ask their assistance in obtaining tenants therefore. The attached letters were sent the commission. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Mabel Marvin Board Secretary
