3. New Business
A. Report from Suzanne Bass on Florida Statues Chapter 162 relative to the
new Code Enforcement Law
Ms. Bass explained the Legislative Action on amending Florida Status Chapter
162 dealing with Code Enforcement Boards . She stated the Legislative
amended the existing procedures outlined in the old Chapter 162 and added a
complete new Part 2 titled "Supplemental County or Municipal Code or
Ordinance Procedures" which states the code enforcement officer for the
municipality can give tickets similar to local police officers. Another
change she explained was the procedure that is followed when a repeat
violator is found, the code enforcement officer notifies the violator but is
not required to give the violator any time to correct the violation. It also
raises the fine for a repeat violator to $500 a day for each day he is in
violation. Chairman Bull stated the Code Enforcement Board would continue to
operate as it had in the past.
