Board Member Review Committee Meeting
March 3,2005
CITY HALL,COMMISSION CHAMBERS,800 SEMINOLE ROAD
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am. Those in attendance were Mayor John Meserve,
Commissioner Sylvia N. Simmons, City Manager Jim Hanson, City Clerk Donna L.Bussey,
Chief Building Inspector Don Ford and Tree Conservation Board Chairperson Maureen
Shaughnessy.
City Manager Hanson explained that the primary purpose of the meeting was to discuss and
evaluate Tree Conservation Board Member Jim McCue for reappointment.
Mr. Ford reported that Jim McCue has a good attendance record and that he considers him to be
a valuable asset to the Tree Conservation Board. Ms. Shaughnessy agreed with Mr.Ford's
evaluation. Discussion ensued.
The consensus was to recommend reappointing Jim McCue to serve on the Tree Conservation
Board.
Mr. Ford left the meeting at 10:15.
City Manager Hanson explained that Mayor Meserve was invited to the meeting to observe and
understand the process which was being used to make appointment recommendations to the
Commission.
Mayor Meserve commended the committee for its work. He expressed his concerns regarding
his involvement in the recommendation process. He believed, since the charter places the
responsibility on the Mayor to make the recommendations to the Commission,he should be part
of the initial candidate review process.
It was the consensus of the committee that the Mayor become a member of the Board Member
Review Committee.
There being no other business,the meeting adjourned at 10:30 am.
