REGULAR MEETING OF
TREE CONSERVATION BOARD
October 12, 2005
A regular meeting of the Tree Conservation Board was held on September 14, 2005 in the
Adele Grage Cultural Center. Present were Jim McCue, Jamie Fletcher, Stephanie
Catania, Building Official Don Ford and Recording Secretary Amber Lehman. Chuck
Carroll and Maureen Schaughnessy were excused.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:13 p.m.
2. Recosnition of Visitors
Jim McCue recognized KC Quintoff.
KC Quintoff, 544 Plaza Drive, stated that he believes the trees are very important to the
City of Atlantic Beach. Mr. Quintoff asked why the proposed tree ordinance has been
brought to the City Commissioners twice, but has not been voted on. He stated that he
would like to see saving the trees more of a priority of the City Commissioners.
3. Approval of Minutes of the Meeting of September 14, 2005
A motion was made by Board Member Fletcher to approve minutes from the September
14, 2005 minutes, 2°d by Board Member Catania, unanimously carried.
4. New Business
A. Stormscaping Book
Mr. Ford presented a book about stormscaping. The book will be kept in his
office at City Hall. The book outlines several landscaping ideas for preparing for
hurricanes. This book was recommended by Commissioner Simmons.
B. Proposed Tree Ordinance
Mr. Ford handed out a spreadsheet, which detailed the proposed changes for the
Proposed Tree Ordinance.
There was discussion on the proposed changes.
Mr. Fletcher stated that he had concerns about some of the wording with the
proposed changes. He asked that the board members spend time at the next
meeting defining the changes better.
C. Permits Issued
Mr. Ford stated that due the lack of quorum at the last meeting, he had to issue
two tree removal permits for 455-461 Atlantic Beach Blvd. And 676 East Coast
Drive.
D. Dorothy Kerber Letter
Ms. Catania stated that Dorothy Kerber had written a letter to the Beaches Leader
citing incorrect information on the Proposed Tree Ordinance.
Ms. Schaughnessy (absent from meeting) had prepared a rebuttal to Ms. Kerber's
letter to the Beaches Leader.
Mr. McCue suggested that the board agree to send Chairman Schaugnessy's
response to the Beaches Leader so that it will clear up any incorrect information.
Ms. Catania made a motion to accept Chairman Schaughnessy's response as
written as a rebuttal to Dorothy Kerber's letter to the Beaches Leader, seconded by
Mr. McCue; motion unanimously approved.
