REGULAR MEETING OF
TREE CONSERVATION BOARD
October 26, 2005
A regular meeting of the Tree Conservation Board was held on October 26, 2005 in the
Adele Grage Cultural Center. Present were Chair Maureen Shaughnessy, Jim McCue,
Jamie Fletcher, Stephanie Catania, Building Official Don Ford and Recording Secretary
Amber Lehman. Chuck Carroll was excused.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m.
2. Recognition of Visitors
Chairman Shaughnessy recognized both Dorothy Kerber and Sally Clemmons as
visitors.
3. Approval of Minutes of the Meeting of October 12, 2005
A motion was made by Board Member McCue to approve minutes from the October 12,
2005 minutes, 2°d by Board Member Catania, unanimously carried.
4. New Business
A. Tree Removal Applications
1. 1525 Beach Avenue
Mr. Robb Smith of Ortega Properties, Inc. submitted a Tree Removal Application
to remove four eight inch palms in the interior zone for the construction of a new
home.
A motion was made by Board Member Catania to instruct building official to
issue a tree removal permit for four 8 inch sable palms in the interior zone, to be
mitigated with sixteen 12 inch sable palms, seconded by Board Member McCue;
motion unanimously carried.
5. Old Business
A. Calendar
Recording Secretary Lehman stated that she had created new calendars for
everyone on the board with the dates annotated for each Tree Board Meeting. She
also stated that there were two meetings that were questionable. The scheduled
meeting on November 23, 2005 and December 27, 2005 may need to be
rescheduled since those two meetings are so close with the holidays.
A motion was made by Board Member McCue to cancel both the November 23
and December 27, 2005, and schedule a meeting on an as needed basis if there are
"''' any pressing agenda items, seconded by Board Member Catania; motion
unanimously carried.
B. Tree Removal Permit
Mr. Ford stated that he issued a tree removal permit for West 22"d Street. The tree
that was taken down looked healthy but there were definite signs that it was a
dead tree. There wasn't a single leaf on the tree and inside the trunk was
decaying,
6. Reports and Announcements
Dorothy Kerber stated that she was not happy with the board deciding on the
mitigation fees that were being assessed to homeowners that want to take down their
own trees on their own property. She also stated that she was not happy with the
current or proposed Tree Ordinance.
Mr. Ford stated that the Tree Board is still looking for new board members to fill
empty seats due to term limits.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
