04-26-07 MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE April 26, 2007 A regulaz meeting of the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee was held Thursday, Apri126, 2007, in the Adele Grage Cultural Center. Present were Laurie Melancon, Jolyn Johnson,. Ray Coleman, Alicia Paley, Ingrid McCawley, John Longbottom, Avery Gcelz, Hiatt Woods, Kelly Manuel and Pazks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson. Absent were Gary Becka and Mark Howard. 1. Call to Order Parks and Recreation, Director, Timmy Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM. John Gcelz introduced the new Teen Council Vice President Hiatt Woods and Vice President Pro-tem Avery Goelz. 2. A~aroval of the Minutes of March 27 2007 A motion was made by Committee Member Ray Coleman, seconded by Committee Member Ingrid McCawley to approve the minutes of March 27, 2007. The motion was carried unanimously. 3. Old Business (a) Event/Programs (i) Songwriter's Concert John reported that the talent remains outstanding. There were 28 people in attendance and 10 performers. Two audience members teach at Douglas Anderson and approached Darrell afterwards to be added to the email list and to develop a program that has our performers judging the DA students and performing for them. Hiatt attends DA and will follow up. (ii) Acoustic Night The next event is scheduled for April 29. (iii) Family'Lympics Laurie reported that there were about 200 people in attendance and distributed 1 SO medals. Having the event in the front of the school would have given the event more visibility, but the event went well; (iv) Tour de Parks Alicia reported that the event was a success. Approximately 100 people attended the event. The volunteers and tours were great. Most of the bikers were first timers. The Teen Council did a great job as well. Everyone seems to have had a great time at the event. There were several requests to provide t-shirts for next year. (v) Art in the Park Jolyn reported that everything is ready to go. Timmy will provide the prize ribbons and extra t-shirts to Jolyn. There approximately 40 artists that have signed up. Signs can go up in Johansen Park on the Monday before the event. Vehicles can park on Park Terrace West. (b) Teen Council Avery reported that the Teen Council will assist with the Art in the Park event. Laurie ask that the Teen Council assist with the dance at Mayport Middle School. 4. New Business (a) Budget Timmy emailed a budget list to the committee showing the current budget, expenditures to date and a column for next year's budget. Laurie requested full funding for the Mayport Middle School program, which is $26,000 including bot ball. The committee discussed programs and budget. A motion was made by Ray Coleman, seconded by Kelly Mannel to approve and submit the following budget to the City Commission for fiscal year 2007-2008. The motion carried unanimously.
