CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MARCH 28, 2006
A regular meeting of the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee was held Tuesday, March 28,
2006, in the Adele Grage Cultural Center. Present were Chair Rusty Pritchett, Linda Ginsberg, Laurie
Melancon, Ray Coleman, Darrell Prather, Ingrid McCawley and Timmy Johnson. Alicia Paley and Julie
Dias were absent.
1. Call to Order
Chair Rusty Pritchett called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.
2. Aparoval of the Minutes of Februarv 28 2006
Rusty stated that the word sale should be sell in the last sentence of item 3a-iii.
Ingrid stated that the word the after Police should be removed in item 3a-iv.
A motion was made by Committee Member Ray Coleman, seconded by Committee
Member Ingrid McCawley to approve the minutes of February 28, 2006 as amended.
The motion carried unanimously.
3. Old Business
a) Events/Programs
i) Songwriter's Concert
Darrell reported that the next event would be held Apri19, from 6 to 8 p.m.
ii) Acoustic
Darrell reported that the last event had approximately 75 people in attendance.
The talent was great and so was the weather. The next event will be held April
23, from 4 to 6 p.m.
iii) Art Festival
Linda passed out flyers for distribution and a volunteer sign-up sheet for the
event. Robin Sheppard donated his time to create the artwork for the T-shirts
and flyers. Currently, there are six artists that have submitted an application for
the festival.
iv) Shakespeare in the Park
Linda reported that the event would be held the first weekend in June. Alicia
sent in a written report that she is not affiliated with any dance troupe in the area
anymore, but does know several dancers in the area and would contact them and
find out if they are interested. She also requested, giving her until the April
meeting for a definite answer.
v) Tour de Parks
Alicia did not attend the meeting, but emailed the following report: twenty press
releases went out to nineteen different publications and a local bike club. Bio
Max is donating snacks and will pass them out at one of the parks. Currently,
there are six volunteers commented to assist at the event, but there is a need for
sixteen. Sponsorships have been solicited and we are working on the flyer.
Instead of meeting at a particular park, each participate will start at their
neighbor park, pick-up a map and follow the trail from park to park.
vi) Mayport Middle School After-school Program
Laurie reported that she attended a botball event and would submit an invoice
for payment.
b) Teen Council Update
No teen council member was present to give a report.
4. New Business
The skate park competition is scheduled for May 13, check-in is at 10:00 A.M. and pre-
registration is required. The cost is $20 per participant and $40 for open pro. All participants
must sign a wavier.
Timmy reported. that he received an email commending the committee for approving the
Working Warrior program because it is such a wonderful program for the kids.
5. Other
Timmy requested. that the committee work on their budget items for the next meeting.
6. Adjournment
There being no other business or discussion; the meeting adjourned at 7:55 P.M.
