SUBJECT: City M er's Report
Alcohol Deployment; The Police Department conducted another alcohol deployment on
December 27 to determine if employees at various businesses in Atlantic Beach would sell
alcohol to underage informants. Of the 16 businesses that were checked, sales were made at
three of them including Ocean 60, Culhanes, and the Hannah Park Food Mart. This is the third
citation issued at Ocean 60 in the last year and the second in the last 12 weeks.
Purchase of Spare Jet Mier Pump for Wastewater Plant #2; The city has included in the
current year's budget the amount of $30,000 to purchase a spare jet mixer at the Buccaneer
Wastewater Plant. This was purchased without taking bids because it is a sole source item
obtained from the Sanders Company who is the representative for Fairbanks, Morse Pump
Company. The cost of the pump is $24,675. Purchasing the pump from any other company
would require additional repiping costs. However, city staff got a comparative quote to check
the relative fairness of the price. A similar pump from the Hudson Pump Company was priced at
$36, 654. This report is being made because it exceeds the $10,000 limit, although it is exempt
from purchasing regulations because of it being a sole source item.
Dates for Stratesic Planning Workshops; The dates have been set for the upcoming strategic
planning workshops. They will be on Wednesday, February 27a' and Thursday, February 28`".
Both meetings will begin at S:OOpm and both will be conducted in the Adele Grage Cultural
Center. While past meetings have been held in the Sea Turtle Hotel, it is presently under
renovation and we have been advised that the conference rooms will not be available at that time.
