Item 3AAGENDA ITEM # 3A JANUARY 28, 2008 January 22, 2008 MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FROM: Jim Han -E~ttyManager SUBJECT: Follow-u Report Under~ronnd Power Lines; A question was raised at the last commission meeting about the possibility of getting overhead utility lines placed underground. This issue was brought up by the Mayor and Commission at the strategic planning sessions conducted in February 2007. At that time, it was determined that the commission's first priority was the section of line along Atlantic Boulevard beginning at Town Center and extending westward to Seminole Road. A meeting was held with senior JEA staff shortly after the strategic planning workshops and an estimate was provided of $652,000 for the electric line relocations. This price did not include the reinstallation of street lighting, relocation costs for telephone and cable TV and the service connections to the adjoining buildings. The total project cost for that section of road was estimated to approximately one million dollars. Generally, representatives from the utility companies have been amenable to placing their lines underground, provided that the city pays all of the costs. However, the city has experienced considerable delays in dealing with the telephone company in getting relocations completed.
