AGENDA ITEM: Florida Emergency Management Grant

BACKGROUND:
Florida Division of Emergency Management Bureau of Preparedness grants have been
established and are administered by the State of Florida. The Atlantic Beach Police
Department has received the approval for $4,120 in grant funding to purchase a Ballistic
Shield to be utilized by our tactical team. This grant does not require any matching funds
from the City.
The next step of the process for this grant is for the Police Department to obtain a
purchase order for the equipment. For this process, the City needs to authorize Chief
Thompson to sign any required paperwork and manage the grant funds. The deadline for
the submission of our reimbursement request is June 30, 2008.
BUDGET: This action will provide $4,120 in grant funding to be added to the 2007-
2008 budget to purchase a Ballistic Shield.
RECOMMENDATIONS: To authorize David E. Thompson to sign any required grant
paperwork on behalf of the Mayor and the City.
