CITY COMMISSION MEETING
STAFF REPORT
AGENDA ITEM: ORDINANCE NO. 20-08-90 AMENDING THE OPERATING
BUDGET FOR THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH,
FLORIDA FOR FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1,
2007 AND ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 2008.
SUBMITTED BY: Nelson Van Liere, Finance Director
DATE: June 30, 2008
BACKGROUND: The Public Works Director is requesting funding to be used for repairs to City
facilities due to damages caused by the recent renovation and construction work at the One Ocean
hotel. Approximately $24,800 is needed for milling and resurfacing of Ahern Street from Ocean
Avenue to the lifeguard station; restoration of the handicap parking spaces; repair of damaged
sidewalk along East Coast Drive bordering the off site parking area rented by One Ocean for use by
construction crews; and, other minor repairs. Another $10,000 is needed to pay for sidewalk and
driveway concrete repairs; irrigation system restoration; and, landscaping replacement. An
estimated $3,500 will be used to replace the damaged water meter vault at Beach and Ahern. The
Public Works Director anticipates reimbursement for these expenditures.
The City would also like to reassign $25,000 from the original budget that was designated for
improvements to the Buckman Trust property. These funds are no longer needed for the purpose
intended, as the land purchase did not occur. These reassigned funds, plus an additional $3,307 from
unreserved fund balance, is requested to complete the project.
BUDGET: The total net impact on the budget for this ordinance is a reduction
of $3,307.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Ordinance No. 20-08-90
