AGENDA ITEM: Lt. Henry J. Bartle Retirement

BACKGROUND:
Lt. Henry J. Bartle has announced his retirement effective August 25, 2008. He served
the Atlantic Beach Police Department for 25 years during which he was assigned to
duties as a patrol officer, patrol lieutenant, and internal affairs investigator. He was
repeatedly recognized by the Police Department and by area law enforcement agencies
for his outstanding work, and he was selected as the Officer of the Yeaz in 1987 and
2006. The City of Atlantic Beach recognized him as the Employee of the Yeaz in 2005.
He has had an outstanding career in law enforcement, and he has provided an excellent
example for other officers to emulate.
In the past, when recommended by the Chief of Police, police officers taking a full
retirement have been awazded their badges and their duty pistols. In each case, the Police
Department has brought these matters to the City Commission to obtain Commission
approval. The purpose of this staff report is to seek approval to continue this tradition.
BUDGET: The price of a .40 caliber Glock Mode122 is approximately $409.00, and a
badge is approximately $113.00. Currently, the Police Department has spaze pistols and
badges, and the Police Department will not need to purchase replacement items in the
neaz future.
RECOMMENDATIONS: To approve awazding the .40 caliber Glock Model 22, Serial
Number LXP823, and the Lieutenant duty badge to Lieutenant Henry J. Bartle.
