7/08/2008WorkshopMinutesCITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CODE ENFORCEMENT BOARD WORKSHOP MINUTES 7:00 P.M., July 8, 2008 Call to Order: PRESENT: Veda Bernstein Juliette Hagist Mamie Hurd Ray Martin Richard Ouellette Barbara Weiss EXCUSED: Carl Russell, Chairman Ron Pendleton, Vice-Chair AND: Alex Sherrer, Code Enforcement Officer Susan Gorman, Secretary Board Member Barbara Weiss motioned for Board Member Richard Ouellette to officiate as Chairman and the meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. Acting Chairman Ouellette requested the Board forgo the formalities of a regular Board meeting. Code Enforcement Officer Alex Sherrer requested that the roll be read. Secretary Susan Gorman read the roll and determined that there was a quorum. 1. Approval of the Minutes The Board determined to defer approval of the Minutes of May 13, 2008 until the next regularly scheduled meeting. 2. Workshop a. Status of Mayport Road Revitalization Code Enforcement Officer Alex Sherrer presented recently published news articles concerning the Mayport Road Revitalization. Officer Sherrer took questions from the Board regarding recent developments. Page 2. July 8, 2008 b. Increase in Caseload The Code Enforcement Officer advised the Board to be prepared to hear more cases, and possibly meet more frequently. c. Requirement for Special Code Enforcement Hearings Increased regulation resulting from International Property Maintenance Code guidelines would impact local business as well as rental properties in Atlantic Beach. 3. New Business Code Enforcement Officer Alex Sherrer asked Board Members about their rental property holdings. He also advised the Board of his plans to consult with the City Attorney Alan Jensen about potential conflicts with Landlords serving on the Code Enforcement Board and hearing cases related to rental property compliance. Discussion ensued. Board Members asked to be updated on action taken by the Commission that relates to Code Enforcement Ordinances. Board Member Ouellette requested an update on the Benjamin Brown Case. The Board Members were asked to review their personal contact information and advise Secretary Gorman of any changes. Officer Sherrer discussed term limits with several of the Board Members and suggested they should indicate their desire to be reappointed to the Code Enforcement Board. 4.
