The Mayor reported she had attended a disaster preparedness meeting at the Emergency Operating Center in Jacksonville that afternoon. She presented documents to the City Clerk and asked that they be copied for the City Commission. She said she had inquired about the use of the Beach Boulevard bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway during emergencies and was advised that they were aware of the situation and had been working with the Coast Guard to come up with a better arrangement. She said the new agreement was in the process of being approved which would allow the bridge to open only once per hour and it would be locked down in the position advantageous to motor traffic six hours before gale force winds occur. Page Two Minutes - Special Called Meeting August 30, 1999 With regard to the necessity of holding this Special Called meeting, the Mayor said that an official action could not be taken out of the public eye and she did not feel polling was a legitimate way in which to arrive at a decision regarding the next step in the City Manager search process. She felt it was, therefore, necessary to hold a Special Called Meeting for this purpose. The Mayor declared the meeting adjourned at 7:19 p.m. SUZANNE SHAUG ESSY Mayor/Presiding Officer ATTEST: t.l tti MA BEEN KING Certified Municipal C
