08-19-98 vMINUTES OF THE COMMISSION WORKSHOP MEETING HELD IN COMMISSION CHAMBER ON WEDNESDAY,AUGUST 19, 1998 The meeting, which was held for the purpose of reviewing the City Manager's proposed operating budget for FY 1998/99, was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy. Present, in addition to the Mayor were commissioners Beaver, Borno, Meserve and Mitchelson. Staff present included Jim Jarboe, City Manager, Nelson Van Liere, Finance Director, Tim Townsend, Utility Plant Division Director, Don Ford, Building Official, George Worley, Community Development Director, Bill Searcy, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, Phil Nodine, Streets & Maintenance Division Director, George Foster, Human Resources Director, Claude Mayo, Fire Inspector and acting Fire Chief, Chief John Campbell, Deputy Police Chief, Chief David Thompson, Public Safety Director, Chris Walker, Water Distribution and Collection Supervisor, Donna Kaluzniak, Assistant Public Works Director, Robert S. Kosoy, Public Works Director, Timmy Johnson, Parks and Recreation Director, and Edie Mickey, Secretary/Records Clerk for the City Clerk's office. After opening the meeting, the City Manager was asked by the Mayor to introduce the staff in attendance. Mr. Jarboe had all staff introduce themselves, give their title and give a brief summary of what their major responsibilities were. Mayor Shaughnessy said the purpose of the meeting was to prioritize and go over the betterment programs. Since there were no members of the public in attendance, the Mayor directed the Commissioners to prioritize their requests, in writing, in two ways: 1. Indicate the Item(s) desired; and 2. Indicate the cost of the item or the amount to be spent. The Mayor requested that this list be submitted to the City Manger within 48 hours. Commissioner Meserve indicated he would like them to be turned in by the close of business on Friday, August 21. Commissioner Meserve also suggested that instead of a handwritten list, staff could just make copies of the budget and using a high liter and arrows, indicate their requests. City Manger Jarboe stressed to the Mayor and Commissioners that if they had any questions, staff would be more than happy to answer any questions and they could be contacted by phone.
